Ask any zoo, aquarium or waterpark operator who their best guests are and you’ll hear the same answer: members. Members pay up front, before the season starts. They come back all year, not once. And because they’ve already paid to get in, they spend more on food, retail and add-ons every time they visit.
That makes a membership program one of the most powerful revenue tools an attraction has. It also makes it one of the most frustrating to run on a system that treats a membership as a ticket with a longer expiry date.
Today we’re releasing a new set of membership capabilities in RocketRez, built for how attractions actually sell and manage members. They’re live in time for the holiday season, when a year of visits becomes one of the easiest gifts on a shopper’s list.
Most membership programs don’t struggle because guests don’t want them. They struggle at the moments where buying, sharing or renewing gets harder than it should be:
• A gift buyer is asked for the recipient’s details atcheckout, doesn’t have them, and leaves.
• A family with three passes renews them one at a time, and the youngest kid’s pass quietly lapses.
• Two parents share one account, and front-line staffcan’t tell who is allowed to use what.
Each of these costs you a new member, a renewal, or a smooth visit at the gate. The new release is built to close those gaps, organized around three jobs: selling more members, keeping more of them, and keeping every visit honest.
Gift memberships, online and at the counter. Shoppers check “This is a gift” at online checkout and can add the recipient now or after they’ve paid, so nobody stalls at the form. Your front-line team gets the same flow at the POS with a single Gift button, which matters in December, when the guest buying a day ticket is often also shopping for someone else.

Memberships that start when the gift is opened. The recipient gets an invitation to accept their giftand fills in their own details, then manages their own account.

Buy now, pay later. Already available in RocketRez, buy now, pay later lets families spread out the cost of a bigger pass. That makes the family membership an easier yes, rather than a reason to settle for a single day ticket.
Family accounts. Families can now hold every membership in one account and renew them together in a single checkout. Fewer renewals slip through the cracks, especially the kids’ passes that are easiest to forget.

Shared access. A member can invite a co-parent, grandparent or caregiver to share their membership and choose whether that person can use it or also manage it. Invitations that go unanswered expire on their own, so access never stays open by accident.

Right on the membership record, your staff can see who each membership is shared with and what each person is allowed to do. That means faster entry for real members and less pass sharing for everyone else.

The tools matter most whenthey’re part of a plan. Here are four ways attractions can put the new releaseto work between now and the new year:
• Lead your holiday campaign with the gift. Position a membership as a year of visits in your Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions, and make sure gifting is switched on for every membership type you promote.
• Pair the family membership with buy now, pay later. Splitting the cost into smaller payments turns a bigger family pass into a much easier decision.
• Give your front-line team a one-line prompt. Guests visiting in December are gift shoppers too. A simple question at the counter, like “Want to give a membership to someone on your list?”, turns a holiday visit into a gift sale.
• Plan for January. Gifts bought in November and December become brand-new members in the new year. Have your welcome messages ready so those first visits lead to renewals twelve months later.
Memberships are a core part of how RocketRez helps attractions bring guests back: everything that turns a one-time visit into a lasting relationship. Because memberships run on the same platform as your ticketing, POS and online store, every gift, renewal and member visit sits alongside the rest of your revenue, not in a separate system.
If you’re running a membership program on a system that wasn’t built for it, we’d love to show you what’s possible. Heading to ZAA in New Orleans or IAAPA in Orlando? Come find us there.
